God's Word Provides the Way Out.
No testing has overtaken you except ordinary testing. But God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but when he tests you, he will also bring about the outcome that you are able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
Temptation is an insidious thing. The evil one has his sights set on us and knows what temptations have the caliber to bring us down. His demons slither around the world keeping eye on our behavior, tracking our weaknesses, and devising just how to target us. This is done so secretly, so subtly, that we forget at times we even have an enemy. We wander right into his crosshairs unaware that death awaits us. Once he has mortally wounded us, he chides us into believing there is no balm for our wounds, no dressing to stop the bleeding. He is evil.
In contrast, God is faithful. We see this in the promises He has made, promises which He carries out in our daily life. When we are in the crosshairs, we cry out, “This is unfair. I am weak. I cannot stand up under this onslaught. I am going to fall.” But, in His word, God reminds us, “I have a purpose for allowing this temptation to come before you. I want to test your faith, to strengthen you, to make you prepared to take on the evil one with my word.” Furthermore, He promises, “I will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. You can stand up in the face of this temptation. Look to My word, and you will find a way out.”
Oh that we would always find that way out! He provides strength, but sadly we look to our own strength. We feebly shake our little fists at the evil one as if that would scare him away. We stumble, and we fall brought down by his half truths and outright lies. Even then, do not listen to the evil one. Our wound is mortal. But Jesus gives life. Christ’s blood restores, heals, and renews. His blood covers our sins. No one can accuse us, not even the evil one. Christ, the One who died for us, stands as our Judge. He will not convict us. He will not accuse us. Even the darkest of our sins are covered. This is the truth by which we stand.
