The Day You Are Waiting For is Here

In that day you will say: I will give thanks to you, Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger has turned away, and you comfort me. Isaiah 12:1

Dear brothers and sisters comforted by redemption in Christ:

What are you looking forward to at this time of the year? Is it spring break? Is it summer vacation? Is it the simple joy of being able to be outside? Is it getting corn seeded? Cold winters seem to drag on forever. And we all want change. But sometimes as we look forward to a blessing, it seems as if it will never come.

We can look at the day of Christ’s return that way. It seems as if the in that day in Isaiah’s prophecy will never come. The day of Jesus’ return seems so distant. Will we ever taste its fruit? Will we ever be renewed, be made holy so we do not sin? Will we ever know the peace and comfort of being forever with our Lord?

But, dear sisters and brothers, in essence that day has come. Scripture also says today is the day of our salvation. Today is the day that in Christ God the Father turns His anger away from us. Today is the day that in Christ we have peace with the Father. Today is the day that in Christ our guilt and shame is taken away. Today is the day of repentance when we recommit our lives to thankful service to Him. All of this is possible because His mercies are new every morning.

So as we await that last day, we can live every day as if it is the last day. We do not have to wait for its blessings. We already have a foretaste of those blessings today and every day. In this truth, we rejoice. And, motivated by this truth, we sing His praises in worship and proclaim His name in our community. Today is the day of our salvation. Blessings.
