The Wind Of The Holy Spirit

“The wind blows where it pleases. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8

The wind is a mysterious thing. We cannot perceive with our eyes just exactly what the wind is. It blows through mysteriously and does its work unknown to us. We cannot control where it comes from. We cannot control where it is going. The best we can do to understand the wind is to see its effects as it blows the clouds along or rustles the leaves on the trees or howls as it passes through narrow spaces. But overall, the wind remains a mystery to us.

In the same way, the Holy Spirit is a mystery to us. We cannot see the Holy Spirit and understand who He is with our vision. He works mysteriously without our knowing it. As the Word of God is taught and preached, He works in hearts to create faith or to harden hearts. We cannot control the work of the Holy Spirit. He acts in accordance with the Father’s will. He always brings purpose to the preaching of God’s Word. The best we can do to understand the work of the Holy Spirit is to see the effect of His work. We see hearts unburdened. We hear voices praising God for deliverance from sin. We witness the love Christians have for others. Yet despite this, the Holy Spirit remains a mystery to us.

So if you have ever shared Christ with someone else and you wonder if it has had any effect on their life, you need not wonder if your efforts were worth your time. Where the word is shared, the Holy Spirit promises to work. But like the wind, which we cannot see from where it comes or where it goes, the Holy Spirit works in mysterious ways unperceived by us. We may not see the fruits of the Spirit’s works for years. But we must continue to share Christ with others. This is our mission; this is our calling.

Blessings as you continue the work of building the Kingdom.
