Be Radiant!
Whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would take the veil off until he came out again. Then he would come out and tell the people of Israel what he had been commanded. Exodus 34:34
Radiance is an interesting physical phenomena. Technically speaking, it is the eye’s perception of light being reflected off of something. The object that reflects the light is not the source of light. It only reflects back the light it has received.
And so it was with Moses. He was not the source of the radiant glory that caused his face to be transfigured and to glow. No, God was the true source of the glory, the radiance. And just as it was not Moses’ glory that was being revealed to God’s people, Israel, it was also not Moses’ commands which were being revealed to God’s people. God had sent Moses to bring His commandments. And God caused Moses to radiate His glory as a testament to His people that this was indeed His truth which Moses proclaimed.
Dear sisters and brothers, followers of the Lord of Transfiguration, though we have not been blessed yet with seeing our Lord’s glory face to face and though we do not directly radiate that heavenly glory to the world around us, we are the light of the world. Just as Moses had the privilege of bringing God’s commandments to His people, we have the privilege of bringing God’s gospel to our world. It is the joy of our salvation that we radiate. We bring its truth into the darkness of this world to disclose the lies of the evil one and to reveal the love and mercy of our God.
Though the radiated glory of Moses’ face dissipated over time, the word of God never does. Its glory remains. Its truth is never ending. It is effective today, tomorrow, and every day into the future. Be radiant. Reflect to those around you the love of God in Christ Jesus. Preach the word.
