Disappointments
I am sure that more than once you have been disappointed. You have high hopes for a project or event only to have it fall short. I must confess that I hate disappointing others and try to meet others' expectations. However, sometimes I don't do the work ahead of time and actually find out what those expectations even are.
Consider how Moses might have felt when he learned that God was giving the Israelites the land of Cannon. He must have been thrilled at the thought. Now consider that God never allowed him to set one foot in this land because of Moses' disobedience. "12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain in the Abarim Range and see the land I have given the Israelites. 13 After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaronwas, 14 for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before their eyes.” (These were the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.)"
Moses' reaction wasn't what my reaction would be. Moses was more concerned about God's people than with the excitement of entering a new land and gaining glory for himself by leading the people into Cannon. "15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”"
The lesson-the only expectations that should matter are God's. He will position us to bring Him glory and work out all things for our good. May He give us all a humble servant attitude.
